Its like high school all over again
This past Sunday there was quite a bit of drama in church. Leading to this drama were the events of two weeks ago. In case you didn't know, someone decided to break into our stake center and start some fires. By some I mean 12, mostly in the kitchen and some classrooms. So the building got a lot of damage, mostly water and smoke and the firemen cut 2 holes in the roof to help vent the heat and smoke. After all was said and done, there was three feet of standing water in the chapel, half a million dollars in damage and no stake center for around 6 months.
In that stake center there are 3 different wards that meet. Those three wards have to go somewhere. They decided to put two of those wards into our building since we are just a branch and we had that whole building by ourselves. Now comes the drama. This past Sunday we met between Sunday school and Priesthood/Relief Society to decide what time we would meet. Our options were 9AM or 1:30PM. So for 20 minutes everyone decided to tell the reasons they wanted to switch to a certain time, mostly the 1:30 time. It was like a bunch of 12 year olds yelling that they didn't want to wake up an hour earlier. They would rather have the afternoon session so they could sleep in. I had to leave. So I got up and waited outside till a decision was made. The decision made me even angrier. After 20 minutes of everyone yelling about not wanting to get up and be there at 9, they decided 9:30 was a great time for church to start. I guess those 30 minutes made all the difference.
So after this we go to Priesthood meeting and the person giving the lesson was one of the people that was adamant about not coming at 9 and saying he would go to his home ward if that was the case. So before he started his lesson he decided to tell everyone he didn't have the spirit with him and wasn't going to give a good lesson. His lesson was on going on a mission. In this lesson I heard a phrase I thought I would never hear in the chapel or a priesthood lesson for that matter. He told the guys not to screw around and be lazy about a mission but he decided to say "don't be dicking around guys." What a great lesson.
